Marled is defined in the urban dictionary as: A smart intelligent gorgeous young female.
She has this thing about her, that the more you’re around her, the more you fall in love with her.
Attagirl is defined as: An expression of congratulations or praise directed at a female.
With inspiration from these 2 words, I realize that I have raised a daughter who is true to her beliefs and strong in her stance. She is open to all and often thinks beyond my scope of experience as a mother. She surprises me with statements that while true, are also, perhaps, something I had never considered. She has opened my eyes to discrimination beyond racism (the movement of my era), and I am happy to be pushed, to grow, to learn and to embrace new ways of looking at the world. We may not always agree but we are always respectful. Our family motto is: “we are show-up kind of people.” If something needs to be done, if people need help, or if an event needs attendance, we are there. This sweater, worked in two colors held together, is dedicated to women: daughters, sisters, mothers, grandmothers and friends who are twined together in a common, supportive thread.
