Artist's Palette Cowl
Originally designed for my Knit Stars workshop and exclusively available there for the last 2 years you can now purchase the this pattern here on Ravelry. The Artist’s Palette Cowl walks you through 16 decorative techniques to use up scrap yarn and fill your knitting life with color and joy!
SIZE: One size – 26” circumference, 26” in circumference and 28” in length
YARN: 87 yards each of 13 colors of Wonderland Yarns Mad Hatter (sport weight yarn), for a total of 1,131 yards evenly divided between 13 colors. This pattern adapts well to scraps and leftovers. There is a chart on page 15 that tells you how much yardage is used for each section.
NEEDLES:
• Size US 5/3.75mm circular needle with a 24 inch cable, or size needed to get gauge.
• Spare US5/3.75mm needle, double pointed or circular
BEADS NEEDED: The sample uses 270 size 6/0 seed beads (81 for the CO and 189 for the Beaded Trellis section) and 27 size 5/0 seed beads for the Beaded Raindrops section. These are exact bead counts and do not contain any extra beads to replace defective beads. It is recommended that you get extra beads.
Note 1: If you cannot find the larger size 5/0 seed beads you can use the smaller 6/0 beads for the Raindrop section instead, however they will be a bit less sparkly than the larger 5/0 beads.
Note 2: If you like a bit more sparkle you can use the larger 5/0 beads instead of the smaller 189 size 6/0 beads for the Beaded Trellis section, but please stay with the smaller 6/0 for the 81 needed for the beaded cast on.
OTHER MATERIALS: tapestry needle, 1 individual stitch marker to mark beginning and end of round, at least 12 other stitch markers, big eye needle or other way to thread beads onto yarn, crochet hook small enough to fit into size 6/0 seed beads (the sample used a size 10/1.3mm hook)
GAUGE: 24 stitches and 36 Rows to 4” in stockinette Stitch. Differences in gauge will impact the finished size of the cowl and the yardage used, but are not crucial to fit for this pattern.
