Whether you are an open-seas enthusiast, vest enthusiast, or just a big fan of colorwork (Let’s face it, you’re all of the above!) this knit is for you. Arrrgyle is a fun, top-down stranded colorwork adventure. Featuring an elegant brocade motif throughout, this vest is equally suitable for pillaging, plundering, and the modern workplace.
Arrrgyle is worked flat at the shoulders and chest, with the front and back worked separately. After completing the armholes, the front and back are joined, the shoulders are seemed at the cast on, and the remainder of the body is worked in the round. The end result is that the tedious portions are finished first so that you complete the majority of the knit with a relaxing pattern repeat in the round.
Recommended Yarn
Sport or DK weight yarn (approximately 320-340 yards/100grams) in 2 sharply contrasting colors.
Sample shown was knit in Lattes & Llamas Geek-A-Long yarn (328y/100g) in colors Stars Hollow (Navy, MC), and Frost Giant (Pale Blue, CC). You will need 500(560, 620, 680) 740(800, 860, 920) 980(1040, 1100, 1160) yards of each color.

US4 / 3.5 mm 40” circular needles
US5 / 3.75 mm 40” circular needles
Notions
5 Stitch Markers, including one visibly different marker for BoR.
Gauge
26 sts and 30 rounds = 4” on larger needles in stranded color work. The gauge swatch instructions are written to be worked in the round. However, I strongly recommend working 2 swatches, 1 in the round (as written) and one flat. Many knitters (myself included) find that their gauge is different between flat and round knitting, so you may need to adjust your needles when working the shoulders so that you have the same gauge throughout.
Sizing
1(2, 3, 4) 5(6, 7, 8) 9(10, 11, 12) = 30(34, 38, 41)” 44(47, 51, 55)” 57(61, 64, 68)” bust. Note that these measurements reflect the actual size of the completed vest. I recommend incorporating some positive ease by choosing a size that is larger than your actual chest measurement.
