“This is the Arkenstone of Thrain,” said Bilbo, “the Heart of the Mountain; And it is also the heart of Thorin. He values it above a river of gold.” ~ J. R. R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

This hat is a quick project that is easier than it looks! It uses the same gauge as Arkenstone, which is the matching pullover, so it works well as a functional swatch!

Yarn: This is a one skein hat! The sample uses fingering weight held double, but it can also be knit with DK weight held singly.

The sample uses Woolly Yak in the “Moss” colorway.

Size:
This hat comes in one size because of the very large chart, but it has multiple style options, an also fits a very large range of head sizes because of its stretchiness!

Finished Measurements (unstretched):
17” (42.5 cm) in circumference, 9.25” (23 cm) tall

As written, the hat has a double thick brim, is
- Slouchy on a 4 year old
(19.5”/49 cm head)
- Slightly slouchy on an Adult S/M
(21”/52.5 cm head)
- A fitted beanie on an Adult L/XL
(23.5”/59 cm head)

Modification instructions are included in the pattern to create a fitted Adult S/M hat, as well as a slouchy hat for an Adult L/XL. Please note that for a slouchy Adult L/XL you will need more than one skein of yarn.
