Arizona Sunset Sky Wrap
This easy wrap features a play of six different colors in a DK weight to represent the brilliant colors of the Arizona sky at sunset and is worked from the bottom up. I was lucky enough to obtain a stunning kit from an indie dyer but you certainly can put together your own combo of 6 different 50g balls of yarn. I wanted the pattern to simulate the undulating waves of clouds across the sky as the last light from the sun is glowing from behind. I also wanted to integrate thin lines and streaks of color so I was pulled to integrate purl bumps into the design. Usually, purl bumps get no respect, we knitters are constantly trying to hide them. But here, I make them work for the pattern and add some texture as well as some fine detail as the colors are juxtaposed and play off against each other.
The finished piece is a long wrap or scarf; looped around it makes a loose and casual cowl. Finished size as shown in photos here: 10” x 80” at widest point at the top.
This pattern is suitable for an advanced beginner or intermediate knitter. The easy to learn pattern repeat is given in chart form and is also written out.
