ARIA LACE SHAWL

Aria is a crescent shaped lace shawl featuring Estonian lace with nupps. It can also be embellished with beads.

This shawl is named after my beautiful daughter Aria Farzin. She is my inspiration. I learned knitting during my pregnancy with her. So, to celebrate her 2nd birthday I designed this shawl.

BLOCKED MEASUREMENTS

Width from end to end 67” / 170 cm
Length at center 24” / 60 cm

MATERIALS

• Sample shawl is made of 918 yd/ 840 m light fingering weight Ice yarn Cakes Cotton Fine 50% cotton, 50% acrylic (656 yard / 600 m on 5.29 oz / 150 g) in #fnt2-46650 Salmon Pink Lilac

• Size US 5 (3.75mm) needle, preferably 40”/100cm long circular needle to accommodate large number of stitches

• Size US 8 (5.00mm) regular needle

• Size F (3.75mm) crochet hook for making nupps (optional)

• Stitch markers

• Beads (preferably size 6 glass beads) and Size 15 (0.15mm) steel crochet hook for placing beads (optional), (beads are not charted in this pattern)

• Tapestry needle

• Blocking materials

GAUGE

25 sts and 32 rows on 4” / 10 cm in Stockinette stitch (blocked) using size US 5 (3.75mm) needle. Gauge is not essential for this project but can be helpful to decide your yarn requirements.

SPECIAL NOTE

• The pattern is well tested.

• Gradient yarn is perfect for this shawl.

• Instruction for smaller version (chart only, less repeat) is added in separate pdf file. It was a special request by my lovely tester BluenoseReta. Thanks a lot. I hope it’ll encourage many of you to cast on this shawl.

• The original file has the instructions for bigger shawl. You’ll get additional pdf file including chart instructions for smaller shawl with less repeats.

• If you wish to make the smaller one just follow the original file up to PART C. From PART C follow the additional file. It has no written instructions. But everything is almost same as the original design except the number of repeats. So you can easily follow the written part of the original file for repeat sections.

• Though beads are not charted in this pattern, you can get inspiration from BluenoseReta, BluenoseReta, and NGluhova
