Your first pair of argyle socks should be DK weight. You do not want to tackle argyle socks with fingering weight yarn until you have mastered the intarsia technique it uses, and the unique sock construction requiring seaming in three places. This DK weight sock pattern allows you to move along rather quickly, while developing your skills and your understanding of the sock construction.

Needles: 10” straight needles and dpns, U.S. size 5 (3.75 mm) needles (Using one circular needle to knit back and forth is not recommended. The cable will interfere with the hanging bobbins.)
Two 16” circular needles used as “straight” needles will work.

DK wt yarn requirement for a pair of socks:
2 balls (100 gr) Main Color
1/2 ball (25 gr) Diamond Color #1
1/2 ball (25 gr) Diamond color #2
1/7 ball (7 gr) Criss-Cross Color

10 bobbins (if you let criss-cross yarns
simply hang loose, then 6 bobbins):
2 MC Bobbins
2 Diamond #1 Bobbins
2 Diamond #2 Bobbins
4 Criss Cross Bobbins (or leave criss-cross
strands hanging)
