Inspired by a pair of avant-garde cuffs by Yohji Yamamoto, seen at an exhibition at the V&A in London, is this considerably smaller and more practical version. The Aran Cuffs are adorned by braids divided by reverse stocking stitch. For extra drama, pleats are made using a cable needle for a narrower wrist part. The cuffs are worked in the round in a lovely merino and wool mixture yarn. Why not wear the Aran cuffs with a contrast colored cardigan like the Folded Cardigan.

Needles: 3 mm/US 2.5 circular needle (40 cm/16”)

Adjust needle size as needed to match gauge.

Notions: Cable needle and yarn needle.

Gauge: 24 sts and 36 rnds in reverse st st measures 10 cm/4” square.

Notes: Each cuff is worked in the round. The braid is worked from cast on edge to bind off, but the reverse stockinette stitches are reduced by making pleats at the wrist part using a cable needle.
