Gauge isn’t important, just use some bulky, feltable yarn.

Yarn is used doubled throughout in this pattern. The yarn is no longer available, good substitutes would be Alafoss Lopi (used single), Lett Lopi (used double), Schoppel Landhaus (used single) or Cascade 220 (also used double).
