My design for this children’s capelet was inspired by the cape Anna wears in the now famous film! I wanted my design to be classy, not overly “costumey,” something you will want your child to keep using even after all the hullabaloo dies down! This capelet will be perfect for dress-up pretend play or for wearing around town!

This pattern includes two sizes: 2-5 years (14” neck) and 5-8 years (16” neck).

The gauge is 20 st and 32 rows over 4” in stockinette stitch. The capelet begins with a provisional cast on and is worked from bottom up to the neck, with regular decrease rows. The cast-on edge is then picked up, and the border is worked top down using the stranded knitting technique. Finally, the collar is worked and folded over. Finishing touches include a crocheted border around the collar, pompoms at the bottom border, and a sewn-on clasp.

For this capelet, I used Lion Brand Wool-Ease worsted weight yarn (80% acrylic, 20% wool, 197 yds per ball). You will need 2 balls of Dark Rose Heather (#139) for main color, 1 ball Eggplant (#167) for border, and 1 ball Black (#153) for the collar, or equivalent amounts in a worsted weight yarn. You will also need a 32” circular needle in size US 7 or whatever size necessary to get the gauge, and a crochet hook size F.

This pattern includes written instructions for the two capelet sizes listed above, a full color chart, color photographs, a schematic, and notes on the provisional cast on technique.
