The graphic tile pattern of the Andamento Throw is the result of clever mosaic crochet: Only one color is used for each row, and the ends are left long to create fringe (no weaving in necessary).

Yarn Weight 4
Finished Size 44 ¼“ square, excluding fringe.
Yarn Mary Maxim Starlette (100% acrylic; 180 yd 165 m/ 3 ½ oz 100 g): #284001 White (A) and #284177 Medium Blue (B), 5 balls each.
Hook Size J/10 (6 mm). Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Notions Yarn needle.
Gauge 12 sts and 14 rows = 4” in patt, blocked.

Leave a 6” tail at beginning and end of each row. These tails will become the fringe.

Start each row with a slipknot on your hook to create a solid first stitch.

Work each row with one color and right side (RS) facing.

Colors alternate each row.

Read the chart from the bottom up and from right to left for each row.

Squares in columns before and after the chart indicate which color is worked for that row.

When reading the stitches of a row, always work your current color as single crochet unless there is an X in your current color stitch rectangle—These stitches should be worked as a double crochet in the indicated stitch 2 rows below, ignoring any other color “overlapping” your stitch/row. Always work the double crochets in front of chain-2 space in row below.
