An Exercise for Nupps
This little dishcloth pattern is one of the exercises from our learn-to-knit-lace ebook LaceStar and is only available as part of the ebook. This mini project aims to teach nupps - a stitch technique used almost exclusively in lace knitting.
Nupps (pronounced like “loops” and not like “cups”) are an Estonian lace stitch. They are simply a kind of bobble. They create a flatter profile than a traditional bobble, reminding me of satin stitch in embroidery when worked in fine yarn. They can be a little fiddly to work, and you need to be careful not to drop yarn overs during the decreases, but are worth the effort for the beautiful, elegant texture that they create.
