When creating these illusion knit designs it is nice to come across faces that are full of character. American Gothic, by Grant Wood, is an artwork that responds well to illusion knitting techniques.
It is very large and has been designed to be viewed from the side so is intended to be a wall hanging, throw or bedspread. My finished piece measures 120 cm by 140 cm when stretched over a board.
It used approximately 1200 metres DK in each of two colours. A thinner yarn would make a smaller hanging.
The pattern includes several versions of the chart including one intended for mobile devices.
The bottom photo is a moving animation.
