Ambrose Chapel Capelet
The Story
In 1956 Doris Day won an Oscar for her performance of the songQue Sera, Sera* in Alfred Hitchcock’s The Man Who Knew Too Much. The wardrobe for her role as ‘Jo McKenna’ in this film was designed by the very talented and celebrated Edith Head; the Ambrose Chapel Capelet was inspired by one of her creations.*
A reversible, ribbed cable edges this capelet whose construction hugs the shoulders. The pattern stitch presents a pleasant face on both right and wrong side allowing for two completely different looks from this one pattern.
Construction Notes
This capelet begins with a provisionally cast on neck tab. The ribbed cable side edgings are knit on and are turned at the front corners to work a larger ribbed cable across the live stitches of the bottom of the capelet. The bottom edging meets at the centre back where the edging stitches are grafted using a double-sided grafting technique.
