Aluna Sweater
ALUNA SWEATER is a soft sweater with a prominent pattern
across the yoke. You begin by casting on using the Italian cast-on
technique and working a neck edge in a twisted rib. The stranded
pattern is worked down across the yoke. Before the work is
divided into sleeves and body, short rows are worked across the
back of the yoke to create roominess and a good fit.
I’ve knitted the Aluna Sweater with short sleeves, but the pattern
also contains instructions for knitting it with long sleeves.
If you want a slightly less advanced project, a regular long-tail
cast-on can replace the Italian cast-on. Just take care not to cast
on too tightly. A regular bind-off can also replace the Italian
bind-off.

It varies from person to person how much positive ease you like
in your clothes. A useful tip is to measure some of your favorite
sweaters to help you choose the perfect size for you.
My ALUNA SWEATER has 10 cm of positive ease.
Needles
4 mm double-pointed needles
4 mm, 4.5 mm and 5 mm circular needles, 40 and 60/100 cm
Optional: a 4 mm needle for the Italian cast on
NOTE: Personally I choose a needle 0.5-1 mm larger when
working the stranded pattern, to maintain the same gauge as
when I’m working in plain stockinette stitch. It varies from
knitter to knitter whether or not you gauge changes when you’re
knitting with more than one color. This is the reason why I
recommend knitting a swatch before beginning your sweater.
Gauge
17 sts x 25 rows in stockinette stitch on a 4.5 mm needle = 10 x
10 cm
17 sts x 20 rows in pattern on a 5 mm needle = 10 x 10 cm
