Here’s a wonderful knit designer bag with plenty of room to spare. The cable pattern gives the bag an interesting appeal, and you may find people asking you where you bought your bag!

Level: Late- beginner

Method: Worked in the round

Materials:
-Yarn: Approx. 430 yds of a bulky/12-ply yarn; suggested yarn: 4 skeins of Barnet Softee Chunky

-Needles: Size US 11 (8 mm) circular needles (16’’-24’’ cable)
-1 Cable Needle
-1 Darning Needle
-US 11 double-pointed needles for I-cord

-Handles: 2 small leather handles

-Fabric: Less than a yard in an complimentary color

-Thread: matching the fabric color
-Sewing machine (or hand sew)
(Optional) Decorative Piece- A tassel or buttons

Gauge: 3sts= 1’’ and 4 rows= 1’’

Bag Measurements: 14.5’’ wide (at widest base portion) X 12’’ tall; 11’’ wide at top opening.

Pattern Abbreviations:
P- purl stitch K- knit stitch St(s)- stitch(es) CO= cast on BO= bind off M1- (increases 1 st) using the material in between two stitches, pick up the loop with the left needle, and knit into the back of the stitch with the right needle.
SSK (left -slanting decrease) slide two stitches knit-wise on the right needle, then knit into the back of those stitches, using the left needle. K2tog (right -slanting decrease) knit two stitches together. PM= Place Marker Inc= increase Dec= decrease

Cable Stitch Abbreviations:
3 St-RPC- Slide 1 st on cable needle, hold cable back, k2, p1 on cable needle
3-St LPC- Slide 2 sts on cable needle, hold cable front, p1, k2 on cable needle
C4B- slide 2 sts on cable needle, hold back, k2 sts, k2 sts on cable needle
C4F- slide 2 sts on cable needle, hold front, k2 sts, k2 sts on cable needle
6-St Wrap- k2, p2, k2, slide all of those sts from the right needle to a cabled needle. Wrap with the yarn 6 times counterclockwise around the sts, slide those sts back onto the right needle, and continue working the rest of your pattern.
C10B- slide 5 sts on cable needle, hold cable needle in back, k5, k5 on cable needle
C10F- slide 5 sts on cable needle, hold cable needle in front, k5, k5 on cable needle
