Pattern Description from Knitting Little Luxuries: “The soft, chalky pastel stripes of this jaunty tam remind me of 1920s bathing suits and swimming caps, while its shape hints at the cheeky fashions of the Flapper era. The bright picot edge adds light and texture around the face, while a knitted bow stitched on the side completes the delicate but sassy look.”

Yarn: Worsted weight (#4 Medium).

  • Louisa Harding Nautical Cotton (100% mercerized cotton; 93 yd 85 m/50 g): #20 butter (yellow), #23 sage, #21 mauve, #13 beige (brown), #2 natural (cream), and #6 lime, 1 ball each.

Needles: U.S. size 3 (3.25 mm) and U.S. size 5 (3.75 mm) Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Tapestry needle; sewing needle and thread; 22” (56 cm) length of 1” (2.5 mm) bias binding.

Note: “Because some people can’t wear wool next to the skin, this hat is designed to be knitted in cotton, but cotton yarns have no elasticity. A traditional millinery trick - bias binding sewn inside the brim - makes the hat hold its shape.”
