Bright colored cars race to the finish around the brim of this warm cozy hat. Knit in the round in simple stockinette, the cars are knit separately and sewn on later.

THE BASICS

• Approx. 9 (10, 12, 13, 15) yds or 8 (9, 11, 12, 14) m DK or light-worsted weight yarn in dark gray for “road”

• Approx. 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) yds or 2 (3, 3, 4, 4) m DK or light-worsted weight yarn in white for “road stripes”

• Approx. 6 yds (5.5m) Sport weight yarn for each car

• Approx. 3 yds (2.8 m) Sport weight yarn for each set of wheels

• Several yds (m) Embroidery floss or Fingering weight yarn for numbers

• U.S. size 6 (4 mm) 12” or 16” circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge

• U.S. size 5 (3.75 mm) 12” or 16” circular needle or one size smaller than gauge needle

• Set of U.S. size 6 (4 mm) double-pointed needles or size needed to obtain gauge

• U.S. size 3 (3.25 mm) straight needles for cars and wheels
