Notes from the Designer:
When I mention that I live in the desert, people think of lots of sand, cactus, tumbleweeds, and boring. But the desert is actually a beautiful place, especially in the early morning. The desert sky comes alive at sunrise. The sun peeks out over the mountains, while the clouds above create beautiful shades of yellow and pink.
This shawl, which is inspired by Alectrona, the goddess of sunrise, captures the beauty of our sunrises. As you work, you will hold two strands together. Sometimes it will be two strands of the same color, and sometimes it will be two different color strands, which creates a marled effect. I hope you enjoy my sunrise.
- Click here to watch a video tutorial showing how to work the special stitches used in this shawl, as well as how to get started with the Magic Circle cast on.
- The sample shown used approximately 1,760 yds/1609 m total: Color A: 257 yds/235 m, Color B: 402 yds/368 m, Color C: 365 yds/334 m, Color D: 350 yds/320 m, and Color E: 386 yds/353 m.
- The pattern requires two strands of yarn to be held double. In some sections, you will hold two strands of the same color. At other times, you will hold one strand each of two different colors together.
- Before you begin, I suggest that you divide each skein into two equal balls.
- Gauge is important, as the shawl uses all of Color B, as well as the majority of the rest of the colors. Going over gauge may cause yarn shortage. I recommend you use Color A to find gauge, as that color uses the least yardage.
- The beg ch 3 sts count as a dc and will be worked into at the end of each row.
