Edging reminiscent of art deco architecture inspired this scarf -– named after the Aldred Building in Montreal, Canada. The edging combines with garter stitch short rows to create a graceful arc and give the scarf depth.

Aldred comes in one size, and the pattern includes written instructions only. For the adventurous intermediate knitter.

The pattern is designed to be worked in yarns that knit to a gauge (unblocked) of 20 stitches, in garter stitch, over 10 cm/4 inches on 4.5 mm/US 7 needles.

Erratum:

On page 3 of early copies of the pattern, the first paragraph under the heading Instructions: Short-Row Centre of Shawl (worked in Garter Stitch) inadvertently ended with the following incorrect note:

(starting at the edge where you’ve just cast off the edging)

This note has now been removed from the pattern (with thanks to Julie Schilthuis of The Needle Emporium for picking out that mistake).
