Inspiration:
First and for most I am influenced by the fiber, I feel it’s the fiber itself that dictates what it will become. The pattern is secondary and it comes from my every day. The combo is usually dear to my heart, as I express who I am through my knitting. Hope you enjoy this homage to my home here in Alberta.
Its spring here in Calgary, finally, and blooms are appearing. They are fighting their way for the brief warmth of the sun. The queen of the mountainous prairies, the Alberta Wild Rose. It grows here everywhere, growing wild, establishing its superiority over other plants with a strong domineering prickly bush. The petals of this flower are so gentle and fragile in their subtle pinkish appearance, it’s almost hard to believe it flourishes in this unforgiving climate.
This hat/cowl is a representation of my love for this symbolic provincial flower. My undying love for nature is evident. Coming across this fiber was serendipitous, as this is my first collaboration with Mad Tosh, and hopefully not the last. This fiber rustic nature but delicate form is perfect for this project as it mirrors the qualities of both plants beautifully.
