Alacrity
This luxury one-skein project uses reversible lace to create warm and elegant mitts. Worked from the top down in one piece, you can knit until you are almost out of yarn, leaving little waste (an “ad finitum” project). Mitts can be worn with cuffs turned up or down. Since they are completely reversible, the directions for the left-hand and right-hand are identical!
If you are taking the all-day Versa Lace class or the Intermediate Versa Lace class, you will receive this pattern in class.
Skills for this project include:
- tubular cast-on in the round
- 1×1 ribbing
- reversible centered double decrease
- reversible centered 5-into-1 decrease (just once on each mitt)
- bridge
- tubular grafted bind-off
Because the fabric stretches, please work a circumference slightly smaller than the intended hands.
This pattern was available in short form at The Whole Nine Yarns Christmas in July 2016 on Sunday 24 July 2016.
Available in 2 file formats!
Which file should you use?
Booklet file is half-sheet formatted to print as a center-staple booklet if you:
print 2 pages to a side
print on both sides of each leaf
print on margin-less 8.5 x 11 inch paper
(If you’ve taken a class with the designer after June 2012, this is the same format as her class handouts.)
You will have a piece of paper that has pages 4 & 5 on top, and pages 6 & 3 on bottom.
A middle piece of paper that has pages 2 & 7 on top, and pages 8 & 1 on bottom.
Cover (possibly heavier paper) on bottom (outside) of stack.
E-book file is half-sheet formatted but with all the pages in normal order and the blank inside covers deleted.
If you have a smaller tablet or you read off your smart phone, you shouldn’t have to zoom as much. You can also print this size if you print on 5.5 x 8 inch paper — i.e. half-sheet.
If you have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can add back in the blank inside covers and use the booklet printing tools in the program.
