Åklevanter
The name Åklevanter comes from Åkle (woven tapestry) and vanter (mittens).
In most parts of Norway you would call it votter - like in Selbuvotter, but on the west coast of southern Norway, mittens are called vanter.
The pattern is inspired by the traditional Woven tapestries iconic to our textile history.
It is a traditional Norwegian pattern also found in other types of textile crafts.
The letter «Å» is pronounced like the sound
in eng.; ´aw´ (like in awesome…)
yarn:
Women’s: Rauma Finull/Pt2, 175m (191yd) / 50g
MC: Cream col. 401, 50 g
CC: Gray col. 414, 50 g
Men’s: Sandnes Garn Tove, 160m (175yd) /50g
MC: Gray col 1035, 50g
CC: Terrakotta col 4044, 50g
(Rauma Finull/Pt2 and Sandnes Garn Tove knits up the same gauge, and they can both be used, in both sizes, along with other similar wool yarn)
needles: 2,5mm (US 11/2), DPNs or circular needle (magic-loop)
gauge: 32 sts / 40 rows = 10 cm (4inch) in stranded pattern
size:
Women’s: circumf.: 20 cm (7 3/4″) / length: 28 cm (11″)
Men’s: circumf.: 22 cm (8 3/4″) / length: 31 cm (12 1/4″)
notions: 2 stitch markers, stitch holder or waste yarn, tapestry needle
To alter the size;
size 2,25 mm (US 1) needles to make them smaller
size 2,75 mm (US 2) needles to make them larger.
The pattern includes written instructions and charts.
If you are not accustomed to stranded knitting from a chart - this pattern may be a challenge.
