The Aimsir Blanket is a simple, comforting project inspired by the classic granny square – but with a twist. I played around with the structure to create a more solid square, making it cosy, practical and perfect for wrapping up in.

This design is one of eight patterns I created especially for Yarndale 2017, each one named with an Irish word. Aimsir (pronounced AM-shir) means weather, time or season – all the elements that surround us, like a blanket.

The original yarn I used has since been discontinued (sadly a casualty of the pandemic from 2020), but I’ve the ByLaxtons Sheepsoft DK is a perfect substitute. I’ve helped lots of visitors to the studio pick shades in this yarn for their own Aimsir Blankets – and they all looked fabulous!

A simple, soothing project to crochet your own slice of comfort.
