Aiko loves popcorn – the saltier and buttery-er the better! It’s the first thing she packs for a PJ party.
Aiko is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in US (American) terms. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.
Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished items. My Aiko is approx. 14cm tall (5 ½ inches).
You will need:
- 3.00mm hook/D-3 (US)
- 8ply yarns/DK or Light Worsted > 50g TAN, less than 50g WHITE, PINK, BLUSH and PURPLE
- A pair of 8mm safety eyes (flat preferred)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Polyester toy stuffing
- Stitch marker (optional)
Notes:
- Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
- When changing colour, pull through the new colour on the stitch before you need it. This will ensure that you have the correct colour yarn on the hook for the upcoming stitch.
- Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.
- Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item.
- I’ve used the following yarns which are a thick DK: o TAN = Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6 in col. 03 Nude o WHITE = Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6 in col. 02 Natural White o PINK = Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6 in col. 042 Pastel Pink o BLUSH = Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6 in col. 043 Baby Pink o PURPLE = Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6 in col. 041 Pastel Purple o YELLOW = Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/6 in col. 053 Pastel Yellow
- I have used plastic safety eyes but you may choose to embroider the eyes. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
