Age of Magic
THANK YOU FROM ME AND TO CELEBRATE MY BIRTHDAY! For anyone who purchases this pattern, or purchases/has purchased The Myth and Magic Collection - Camelot (via Ravelry only) you can purchase any and all of my patterns and collections at HALF-PRICE from now until the moment the first clue is released on 30 May.
ALTERNATIVELY - SPECIAL OFFER - GET ONE FREE! - Add five patterns, including collections/ebooks (each collection/ebook counts as one pattern), from my Ravelry Store in one single transaction and get the least expensive one free.
Please Note that this will not work in conjunction with any other promotion.
Age of Magic is part of The Myth and Magic Collection - Camelot, a collection of four patterns to ensure you have the perfect shawl for any time of the year. Please note: Purchasing the collection offers a saving. Refunds cannot be given if you purchase the patterns individually and then wish to purchase the collection as an ebook.
Depending on who you talk to, or where you look, magic can mean many things. Looking for a true meaning, The Cambridge English Dictionary offered several but I particularly loved their definition stating that ‘Magic is a special and exciting quality that makes something seem different from ordinary things’. If that is the case, then this shawl is definitely magic!
As you travel through the instructions you will find options and can choose the path that suits you best. Do you like a stocking stitch body? Maybe an all over lace shawl? What about a bit of both? There are four options. Your decision will determine the number of beads required so I will give you the maximum and you can take it from there.
Age of Magic will be released in four clues in May and June
Clue One will be released on the 30th May,
Clue Two the 7th June,
Clue Three the 14th and
Clue Four the 21st
IMPORTANT - Please be aware that on purchasing this pattern, prior to noon on 30 May, you will only receive the PreRelease Information Sheet. The actual pattern will be released in a series of clues.
Each new clue will be released at around 12 noon UK time and will be added to the previous clue(s) so you have an up-to-date pattern. You might like to check each update as you may not need to print out the entire pattern on each clue release. As always, we respectfully ask you to keep the first photograph on your project page as the placeholder, that can be copied from the pattern page, so as not to spoil the enjoyment of the mystery for other knitters. Once you have completed the final clue please update your project page with a photograph of your finished shawl. An updated and complete pattern will be sent to all purchasers after the MKAL has finished.
REQUIREMENTS
Yarn: The original was knit using DyeforYarn Tussah Silk Lace 695m/100g. Other Suitable Yarns: Green Tea Yarn Ujicha 700m/100g. This pattern is also suitable for the following discontinued yarns - Lichtfaden Chocho and Solstice Yarns Banshee.
Finished Dimensions: This pattern is written as a one size shawl though it is easily adapted to reduce or enlarge the size in Chart 2. As written – 61” (155cm) wide, 14” (36cm) deep before blocking and 74” (188cm) wide, 19” (48cm) deep after. Measurements taken using DyeforYarn Tussah Silk Lace. Note that measurements will differ depending on yarn, tension, blocking etc and these are therefore given as a guide only.
Circular Needles: 3.25mm (US3), 3.5mm (US4), 3.75mm (US5) and 4.5mm (US7 – for bind off only) about 1 to 1.5m in length or needles to create a pleasing fabric – your fabric should not be too dense and should have good drape.
You will also need: stitch markers, just under 1000 Miyuki or Toho size 6 seed beads to knit as written, 1mm crotat hook or 0.75mm crochet hook, needle (for weaving in ends), blocking pins and mats.
Gauge: The gauge achieved was 22 sts to 4” before blocking, and 17 sts to 4” after, using 3.5mm (US4) needles measured over stocking stitch using DyeforYarn Tussah Silk Lace. Yarns of different weight and fibre content haven’t been tested so it is not possible to correctly estimate quantities needed to achieve the correct gauge/needle should you choose to use an alternative yarn.
The pattern is both fully written and charted with bead placement clearly indicated throughout.
You will find it useful to print your pattern on a colour printer, however, coloured pencils could be used to highlight aspects of the pattern.
If you like my designs please join us in the Boo Group where you will find a place to discuss my patterns, show off your knitting and hear about KALs and MKALs.
