Yarn Universal Yarn Uni Merino (75% superwash Merino wool, 25% nylon; 437 yd 400m/3½ oz 100 g): #101 Bone (A)and #138 Black Cherry (B) 1 skein each.

Needles Size 2 (2.75 mm): two 24” circular (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers (m); tapestry needle; circle of rigid plastic or cardboard 4½ “ diameter for Pinwheel, 4” diameter for Spiral.

Gauge Pinwheel: 28 sts and 56 rows = 4” in garter st; Spiral: 32 sts and 46 rows = 4” in St st.

• The front and back of the ornaments are worked separately. The front and back are identical. They are joined using a Three-Needle I-cord Bind-off.

• The Pinwheel is worked back and forth in rows with wrap-and-turn short rows forming the wedges. There is no need to pick up the wraps when working the short rows. They blend right in with the garter stitch. Do not break yarn at color changes.

• The Spiral is worked in the round from the center out. The stripes on this ornament are continuous spirals. Do not twist the yarns together when changing color at the end of a round.

• The stiffener for the samples was the plastic cover from a spiral notebook cut to circles of the correct size. Use whatever rigid plastic or cardboard you have on hand that can easily be cut with scissors.
