Inspired by the ocean-like colors of this beautiful hand painted yarn, I wanted to use only the simplest of lace stitches that would allow the yarn shine and the colors drift softly over the surface.

The shawl’s crescent shape is created with easy set of short rows; thanks to the garter stitch lace, the wraps can be left unworked, hidden within the texture. The shawl is elongated and fairly shallow at its deepest point to allow for many different ways of wrapping around the wearer’s shoulders - it can be worn as a traditional shawl or a long scarf.

All in all, Adrift is a quick knit, an excellent last-minute gift idea and a great stash-busting project because it uses only one skein of fingering weight yarn.
