The Adrian Gansey Hat is inspired by ganseys, a type of fisherman’s sweater that is made up of patterns using knit and purl stitches. This hat pattern was originally designed for North Light Fibers, the yarn mill located on Block Island from 2009 until 2024. The pattern include both written instructions and charts to create the texture of the hat. You can get this pattern as part of THE YEAR OF HATS book-- a book of hat patterns from my talented design students who meet annually on Block Island for our Knitwear Design Retreat.

There is something for everyone in this book! Available as an e-book as well as a hard copy from Amazon.

The patterns feature mostly knitted hats (including a beret!) -- a brimmed cotton summer sun hat worked in crochet is also included. Using yarns ranging from fingering to bulky weights, these hats showcase a wide variety of techniques, including colorwork and mosaic knitting.

Whether you prefer sophisticated single-color designs, or multicolored creations employing slipped stitches or stranded knitting, you’re certain to discover hats in this collection that suit your style.

All profits from the sale of this book will be donated to The Nature Conservancy’s Block Island Bird Station.
