A Warm Jacket with an unusual bubble-stitch yoke is a wonderful example of a late 1940s pattern, with a multitude of buttons, a longer-length ribbed body, long sleeves and a decorative ‘bubble stitch’ pattern on the yoke. This combination of details evidences the easing of wartime shortages – particularly the use of 12 buttons – and a stitch pattern quite greedy for yarn.

This elegant cardigan also features raglan shaping and uses short rows to create the elegantly shaped yoke. Increase stitches are worked at the side seams to create its trim silhouette, with the two front sections and back knitted separately along with the sleeves, before they are joined together to work the yoke in one piece. A choice of three body lengths are also provided for this elegant cardigan.

Our version of A Warm Jacket with an unusual bubble-stitch yoke is shown in the same striking burnt-orange as the original pattern but it would look fabulous in any colour you choose to use.

A Warm Jacket with an unusual bubble-stitch yoke is knitted using a choice of Wold 2 Ply Fingering Weight or Byre. Shown here using shade Pompium in the Wold 2 Ply Fingering Weight, but would look equally stylish in our other suggested shade of Jack ‘O’ Lantern in our Byre range.

Our model Charlie is shown wearing the first size 76-81cm (30-32in).

The pattern includes instructions for eight sizes to fit chest measurements between 81cm (32in) and 157cm (62in) and contains clear written instructions plus a comprehensive schematic diagram and sizing chart.
