A Skein of Geese
When a flock of geese or ducks is in flight, it is called a skein.
Put that together with a skein of sock yarn and what results is a fun pattern for men and women. The pattern is a simple knit and purl chevron, which look like geese flying in formation, divided by moss stitch columns just for fun. The heel of this sock is the interesting part. Instead of switching to heel stitch, the chevron/moss stitch pattern is maintained
throughout the heel flap. Because there are five repeats of the pattern (and five does not divide in half easily!) the heel flap is worked over slightly more than half of the leg stitches and has one more moss stitch column than the instep. The rest of the “geese” continue down the foot and onto the toe for a little extra interest at the end.
More details can be found at this pattern’s page on my blog.
