LITTLE by little the ribbed basque is being quietly ousted from our hand-knitted jumpers, and here is a design which dispenses with it altogether with great success. Carried out in a wide rib stitch with a most unusual and becoming arrangement of the collar, there is quite a Tudor touch about it, though history does not record that any of Henry VIII.’s wives knitted themselves pullovers!

It is a design that will prove equally appropriate for house wear or “pour le sport,” and can be made in any color, with or without the contrast introduced in the collar. The original was in fawn, with a touch of hunting green at the neck.

Materials required: 8 oz. fawn, 1 oz. green 3-ply Lincoln Mills super., 1 pair No. 9 needles and a set of 4 No. 11 needles.

Measurements: To fit 34 in. bust, length 19 in.

Jumper is knit flat in pieces and joined into the round at collar.
