update 05/20: small wording changes in Danish translation
a girl’s best friend is a triangular shawl worked flat from the top down. The textured body followed by 2 contrast colored pattern stripes, accented by small garter stitch stripes in a third color and the sportive 3x1 Rib at the edge make this a fun and entertaining knit… a versatile, but special companion for everyday. Pompoms are added at the edge to make it even more special and personal. But tassels or even fringes may be a fantastic option too.
Yarn
Fingering weight yarn in 3 colors.
For the sample, we used:
Main color (MC): 70g of Manos del Uruguay Fino (490 yds/448 m per 100 g); shown in color #421 Havisham
Contrast color 1 (CC1): 60g of Shalimar yarns Breathless (420 yds/384 m per 100g); shown in color Butterscotch
Contrast color 2 (CC2): 95g of Wool of fame Merino Cashmere Mix (399 yds/365 m per 100g); shown in color Taupe
Needles
US 4 (3.5 mm) circular needle, 40” (100 cm) long or size needed to get gauge.
Gauge
20 sts x 34 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) in Stockinette stitch on US 4 (3.5 mm) needles after blocking.
19 sts x 32 rows = 4 x 4” (10 x 10 cm) in Teardrop pattern on US 4 (3.5 mm) needles after blocking.
Gauge is not crucial for this project, but will affect yardage and final size when different.
Size
Approximately 27.5” (70 cm) deep along center, 71” (180 cm) wingspan from tip to tip.
Materials
4 stitch markers, tapestry needle, blocking tools and a fork (for the pompoms).
