This pattern is available for free.

This pattern is Japanese but fully charted using standard knitting & crochet symbols. Here is a direct link to the PDF file.

Note that the pattern is not written with stripes - if you wish to have striped mittens like the ones shown here, just add stripes.

Tips:

  • The cuff is knit flat in garter stitch with the smaller needles, and the rest of the body of the mitten is knit in the round in stockinette with the larger needles. The sides of the tip of each mitten are grafted together.
  • The 90cm cord that attaches to both mittens is made with a crochet chain stitch with 3.5mm hook and two strands of yarn held together.

version A:

  • 30g (79.5m) Clover Snow Jewel Fine
  • Japanese size 5 straight knitting needles (3.6mm)
  • Japanese size 7 double-pointed knitting needles (4.2mm)
  • Japanese size 6/0 crochet hook (3.5mm)
  • four 7mm (or 1/4”) buttons for the eyes
  • two 10mm (or 3/8”) buttons for the noses
  • dark brown embroidery thread

version B:

  • 25g (81.25m) Clover Petit Parfait
  • Japanese size 5 knitting needles (3.6mm)
  • Japanese size 7 double-pointed knitting needles (4.2mm)
  • Japanese size 6/0 crochet hook (3.5mm)
  • four 7mm (or 1/4”) buttons for the eyes
  • two 10mm (or 3/8”) buttons for the noses
  • dark brown embroidery thread

NOTE: There are typos in this pattern. To the right of the diagram for the ears/snout, it says the height is 12 rows when it is actually 6.

Also, on the cord diagram, the slot (where the cord is sewn in) is on the wrong side of the left-handed (lower) mitten. The slot should be on the opposite side from the thumb if you want it to match the mitten for the right hand.
