#335 Evangeline Shawl
15% off this NEW SweaterBabe pattern with coupon code ESHAWL15 (expires 10/5/22, midnight PST).
Paired leaves branch out in different directions along the length of this rectangular shawl. Double eyelets follow the delicate arch of each leaf.
The all-over lace is actually a 21-st lace panel repeated across each row 3 times. The first 16 rows of each panel feature two leaves branching out at slightly different angles. The second 16 rows then flip the leaves for a beautiful, intricate effect.
As you knit this gorgeous lace, you’ll enjoy watching how the double and triple decreases paired with yarnovers create this fascinating lace design.
Lace is both charted and written out.
Exactly two 25 gram balls of the yarn were used to knit up this beauty, making it an inexpensive knit. You might even try it with other types of yarn for a very different, but equally lovely result.
Interesting Note:** The lace is a modified version of an Estonian lace pattern, belonging to the “Lily of the Valley“ patterns. It’s called “Ingrid Ruutel Pattern” from The Haapsalu Shawl Book by Siiri Reimann and Aime Edasi and was created specially for the former first lady of Estonia.*
FINISHED KNIT MEASUREMENTS: 18 ½“ / 47 cm
x 65” / 165 cm.
Approx total yardage required: 500 yd / 457 m (padded, see NOTE below).
Shown in: Rowan Kidsilk Haze (70% Super Kid Mohair/30% Silk); .875 oz/25 g 230 yds/210 m per ball: 2 balls in Liqueur #00595. NOTE: Shawl as shown used exactly 2 balls (extra yarn would be needed for gauge swatch). It is recommended to buy an extra ball in case your gauge is off, the yardage per ball estimate is inaccurate, or you wish to lengthen the shawl.
