31st Birthday Sweater
This sweater is a celebration of life. I turned 31 years old in 2020, and this sweater represents my present and all the things I want to live for. One thing that you should know about me is that I love raglan sweaters. I’ve knitted over 6 raglans. It’s an easy project where I can adjust to my size or incorporate different stitches or create stripes.
Even though raglans are easy, and there are hundreds of patterns out there. This one is a quick project because it uses big needles and a thicker yarn weight.
This is my first pattern release for a garment. Be a little patient with me :)
Sizes
The size is based on chest measurement.
XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL.
Inches: 29, 33, 37, 41, 45, 49, 53, 57, 61.
Centimeters: 74, 84, 94,104, 114, 129, 135, 145, 155.
I am modeling my design in size L. My bust measurement is 41 inches. My mom (not pictured here) is 44 inches and the L size fits her as well.
Materials:
Yarn: DK & Fingering weight yarn held together. However, you can substitute for Aran/ Heavy Worsted weight yarn. 600 meters up to 1000 meters of DK = fingering yarn held together or Aran/Heavy worsted weight depending on your size.
Some testers used Aran weight which worked fine. I also made another top following this pattern but using Aran weight instead of working with yarn held together.
Needles: US 11 8mm circular needles and US 10 6mm circular needles.
Notions: Yarn Needle, 4 stitches markers and scissors. One marker must be in a different color to mark the beginning of the round.
Skill Level
Beginner: for this pattern you must know how to do the long tail cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, slip markers and differentiate a knit stitch from a purl stitch.
Abbreviations
BOR: Beginning of Round
CO: Cast On
PM: Place Marker
K: Knit
P: Purl
KFB: Knit Front and Back
SM: Slip marker
K2TOG: Knit 2 Together
SSK: Slip, Slip, Knit
Gauge:
12 sts x, 22 rows = 4” (10cm) using US 11/8 mm needles in stockinette stitch.
Directions
This pattern is worked in the round using circular needles. The smaller needles are used for the ribbing section at the neck. As you cast on stitches, you will place the markers for the raglan rounds.
