Pattern description from Vogue Knitting, Winter 2007/08: “To create the stormy rainbow effect in this large-collared jacket, a strand of black is worked together with each of the four featured colors. Reynolds/JCA’s ‘Lite-Lopi’ is used for all five shades. Védís Jónsdóttir knit it in one piece with knitted-in hems and closed it with a double-sided zipper.”

“Loose-fitting swing coat with fold-over collar and double-sided zipper. Sized for Small, Medium, Large, 1-X, 2-X, 3-X and shown in size Small on pages 94 & 95.”

  • 9 (10, 11, 12, 13, 14) 1¾oz/50g balls (each approx 109yd/99m) of Reynolds/JCA, Inc. Lite-Lopi (icelandic wool) in #59 black (MC)
  • 3 (4, 4, 4, 5, 5) balls each in #442 royal blue (A) and #444 grass (B)
  • 2 (2, 3, 3, 3, 4) balls each in #435 goldenrod (C) and #436 pumpkin (D)
  • One each sizes 9 and 10½ (5.5 and 6.5mm) ciruclar needles, 40”/100cm length or size to obtain gauge
  • One size 10½ (6.5mm) circular needle, 16”/40cm length
  • One set (5) each sizes 9 and 10½ (5.5 and 6.5mm) double-pointed needles
  • 28 (30, 32, 32, 34, 34)“/70 (75, 80, 80, 85, 85) cm double-sided zipper
  • Sewing needle and thread
  • Stitch markers

Notes:

  1. Coat is knitted with 2 strands of yarn throughout, except for lower edge hems.
  2. Jacket is worked flat in one piece to armholes, sleeves worked in the round to armholes, then joined for yoke and knit flat through collar.
