1880s Zoar Mittens
Pattern description from Knitting America: “This pattern is taken from a pair of mittens in the Zoar collections (OHS #H9169). The mittens were donated to the Ohio Historical Society by a former member of the Zoar Society and likely date to the late-nineteenth century. The original mittens are in Zoar stored with the Zoar textile collection. This pattern interpretation is by Susan Goehring. … A knitter among the Separatists at Zoar used nine colors of yarn to make these plaid mittens, circa 1880, a creative way to use odds and ends of leftover yarn.”
Size: Man’s size medium (same as original mittens)
Materials: 2-ply sport weight wool yarn - one half skein each red, black, green and blue; one set of five double-pointed needles, size 1
No yardage given for this pattern.
