#05 Rootsy Afghan
Pattern description from Knit Simple, Fall 2006: “Make a blanket statement that spans generations. Heirloom-worthy, this beauty sports a garter-stitch border and a speedy allover cable-and-rib pattern.”
Knit Tip: “Why not work this one simultaneously with a more portable project? When you’re on the go, ply a pair of socks or a hat. When you’re relaxing at home at night, add a few more inches to the afghan.”
Gauge: 20 sts to 5” (12.5 cm) and 20 rows to 4” (10 cm) over cable pat using size 11 (8mm) needles. Note: To make gauge swatch, cast on 20 sts and work in cable pat (following written or charted pat) for 20 rows. Bind off. Piece should measure 5” (12.5cm) wide and 4” (10cm) long.
Note from Knit Simple, Fall 2006: “A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back and forth in rows.”
