Melissa Kemmerer started knitting in her teens and dabbled with yarn and sticks on and off for about twenty years before digging into the realm of pattern designing. She earned a Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2004 and worked in an orthopedic rehab setting for about ten years. In 2012, Melissa survived a horrible trauma that resulted in the loss of her young daughter, her home, her mobility, and her career. While she was able to keep her body occupied with an arduous journey to physical recovery, finding a road to healing her heart, mind, and soul was a lot more difficult. Knitting may have, quite literally, saved her life; at the very least, it put her on the path toward mending the broken pieces. Melissa stumbled across Ravelry, which led to finding the incredible knitting community, and then to a beautiful circle of fiber friends.

Her nerdy mathematical side eventually snuck into her knitting; pattern modifications led to pattern writing, which led to a sense of fulfillment and worthiness that had been missing since giving up her job in physical therapy. Now, over a decade later, in addition to knitting and designing, Melissa coaches strength and fitness classes at a local gym in upstate New York, where she lives with her husband and two cats.
