Julia Wilkens
I originally come from Germany and have been living in the Netherlands since 2002. Since 2019, I have been independently publishing my knitting patterns on Ravelry and in internationally published knitting magazines.
My love for knitting began in my teenage years. With a strong sense of individuality and creativity, I always enjoyed designing my own patterns the most. I find inspiration in playing with color, shape, and technique. I love reinterpreting traditional knitting techniques — for example, by combining classic stitch patterns with unexpected color combinations or surprising construction methods. I especially enjoy creating small details and clever techniques that produce a striking and unique effect.
I also enjoy sharing my love of experimentation during my workshops. I encourage participants to dare to make mistakes — because that is often where the most beautiful discoveries happen. New knowledge is built step by step, and with that knowledge you can then find your own creative direction. I believe you do not need to knit perfectly to create the most fun and extraordinary things.
Together with Matilda Ross, I have been creating the YouTube podcast Greatest Knits since 2020, where we share our passion for knitting and creativity with a lot of humor.
