Joy Grise
I first picked up a hook when I was 11 and a mentor of mine wanted to learn to crochet, so she took me with her to her crochet class. It did not capture my 11-year-old imagination, and I left my hook. I picked the hook up again when I was 18 and I needed something constructive to pour my stress into. I only knew the granny square. I completed two granny-square baby blankets in one weekend. And that was how it started.
I now was making baby blankets for all of my friends’ babies (and in my world that is a surprisingly large number of babies). I soon got tired of the granny square and began looking at other crochet stitches and teaching myself to read patterns. The more I looked at crochet patterns the more I realized that there were too many I did not like. Why couldn’t crochet be trendy and fun? And that is how I started designing.
