Zihua Cardigan
The Zihua (ZEE-wha) Cardigan is named for Zihuatanejo, Mexico, a fishing village near Ixtapa on Mexico’s west coast. Locals call it Zihua. I had a wonderful time there in January this year, designing and knitting this sweater under mangrove trees on the beach.
The cardigan features a tall collar and wide, overlapping fronts with reversible chevron panels. Snuggle in with the collar up or wear it folded over and let the fronts drape open--either way the chevron panels look great! Chevron details adorn the back and cuffs too.
Berroco’s Cotton/Alpaca blend Maya provides for beautiful drape and comfort. Zihua is knit in pieces from the botttom up and seamed.
Zihua is modeled here in size 38 3/4” with 4 1/2” positive ease.
Estimated yardage by size 1450 (1550, 1700, 1800, 1900, 2050, 2175, 2300)
Skeins of Maya by size 11 (12, 13, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17)
