The Meditation Jacket- Stripes Version

This design is a classic look with a contemporary flair, and is perfect for the beginner knitter as well as a relaxing project for the laid back advanced knitter. I have been knitting for over fifty years, and have enjoyed many challenging projects. But lately I’ve adopted the attitude of “Less Work, More Fun!” Hence, the No Brainer project series was created. It is a peaceful and meditative experience when one can sit in front of the TV or at meetings and just cut loose without a lot of concentration- and sideways knitting allows just that.
This pattern knits up very quickly and easily with a straight garter stitch (knit/knit) pattern. The knitting can be done without much counting, mostly measuring as you go. Very little finishing is required- just shoulder seams and setting in the sleeves.
The design itself is a versatile cardigan fit with ease and comfort. For a modern look, there is no ribbing. The sideways knit has a wonderful drape and flattering vertical lines. The great artistic freedom you have by choosing from the many brands of worsted weight yarns will ensure this is a one of a kind fashion garment. Design changes can also include: adding a belt, shortening or lengthening the length, ¾ length sleeves, even converting to a vest style without the sleeves- all with very little effort

Yarn: Any heavier worsted weight yarn that will obtain the gauge given below. This pattern shows the jacket in Thistledown Handpainted worsted wool/mohair yarn. (For purchasing, see website www.thistledownyarn.com) and also Brown Sheep Lambs Pride Worsted
COL. A half amount and COL. B half amount
For example: 7 (8, 8) skeins worsted yarn (approx. 4 oz. (190 yards) per skein)

Gauge: (in pattern stitch) 16 stitches = 4 inches, 28 rows = 4 inches

Materials: One 24˝ US 8 (5mm) circular needle or one pair US 8 straight needles (or needle size to obtain gauge)
Seven buttons Tapestry needle Ruler

Yarn Amount: Approx. 1300 yards for size small; 1500 yards for medium and large For two color stripes, half for COL. A and half for COL. B

Sizes: Small (Medium, Large) Picture shows size small (on a size 10 model)

Finished measurements: Bust and Hip circumference: Small 36˝, Medium 40˝, Large 44˝ Length: 25˝

Stitch pattern: Garter stitch — knit every row.
