Yuki the Snowy Owl
Yuki the Snowy Owl is an inquisitive bird – she likes to observe and take in her surroundings. Did you know the male Snowy Owl is pure white, if you’d like to make a male version of Yuki, just skip the black embroidery!
Yuki is an intermediate amigurumi (crochet) pattern written in English using US (American) terminology. The pattern includes detailed instructions in an easy to follow layout but a knowledge of basic crochet stitches and techniques used to make amigurumi is essential.
Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item. My Yuki is approx. approx. 9cm tall and 11cm wide.
You will need:
- 2.2mm hook/C-2 (US)
- 4ply yarn/fingering, 50g WHITE, small amounts of MUSTARD and BLACK
- A pair of 7mm safety eyes
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
- Polyester toy stuffing
- Stitch marker (optional)
Notes:
-
Amigurumi is usually stitched in the round and a yarn with no stretch is best.
-
When changing colour, pull through the new colour on the stitch before you need it. This will ensure that you have the correct colour yarn on the hook for the upcoming stitch.
-
Generally, the hook you use for amigurumi will be a smaller than for other crochet as you want the stitches tight.

Your tension, yarn thickness and hook size used will affect the size of your finished item. My Genji is approx. 14cm tall.
-
I’ve used the following yarns: o WHITE = Scheepjes Catona in col. 105 Bridal White o MUSTARD = Scheepjes Catona in col. 208 Yellow Gold o BLACK = Scheepjes Catona in col. 110 Jet Black
-
I have used plastic safety eyes but you may choose to embroider the eyes. Please ensure that there are no loose fittings.
