The official reveal/FO/ thread will open on Oct 31 - this will be a no chat, one post/entry per FO thread and on Nov 30, I’ll randomly draw 3 prize winners for a choice of one of my ebooks.
The MKAL thread will stay open and spoilered so the turtle contingent can keep swim freely.
The MKAL is running in the Nimble Knits group in this thread here - you can find time zone maps for the release times in the first post.
The preliminary welcome/chat thread can be found here.
- Yarn: Suits lace to sport weight yarn in solid, gradient, or very gentle variegation/speckle/semi-solidity. I used a discontinued yarn myself, and this is the perfect opportunity to do a deep stash dive and polish your metaphorical halo/earn some smug points. Or not - no judgement here! :)
- Yardage is very flexible. The shawl can be bound off anywhere from r162 - r320 and beyond. Allow a minimum of 600m lace weight or 800m fingering weight, but if you have a 1600y skein, you will still be able to use it all.
- Choose needles that suit your yarn and create a gauge you like.
- The design can be worked entirely from the written pattern pattern, or from charts with notes.
- Shape: a wedge-constructed semi circle. Extra wedges can be added to make more than a half circle if desired.
- Sizing is adaptable due to the wedge construction and the extendable edge, so it can be as small or large as you like.
- Beads are an optional addition. As charted, there are up to 1720 beads, but if you don’t happen to need body armour, you can easily use less.
- Hint: as in Don’t Panic, there are several possible endings. One takes you to r238, one takes you to r278, or the third option is to jump across to a different pattern, which gives you another 180 rows to play with.

Ellen from Earthfaire has created some lovely beaded kits here.
(Earlier images were created with AI - after learning that art-generated AI was trained on appropriated art, I am replacing these and don’t plan to use that method again. Consent matters. And yes, if you were wondering, I do indeed live under a rock.)
