… An Gaoth Andheas ~ the wind of renewal
Southwind ~ a traditional Irish tune often attributed to Turlough O’Carolan but said to be composed by Donal O’Sullivan from the translation of a song by Domhnall Meirgeach McCon Mara. Joanie Madden plays an especially beautiful version on her ‘Song of the Irish Whistle’ collection.
The lyrics to this tune speak of the Southwind as the dispeller of woes, the emissary of spring, the harbinger of renewal.
Notes
Worked in two shades of green, this crescent-shaped shawl begins with a two-colour cast on; the strategically placed stripes provide the perfect balance between light and dark. The Garter stitch upper portion is shaped using short rows. A two-colour I-Cord bind off adds stability and harmony.
The bottom border and lace panel are both charted and written out. A picture tutorial is included for the 3-Needle Bind Off used to end the I-Cord Bind Off.
The points at the hem may be blocked to a ‘V’ by only pinning or inserting the blocking wire once at each point or be shaped into scallops by pinning each point multiple times.
