This type of hat is de rigueur in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I have admired it many times walking down Bedford Avenue on my way to the L train ~ from my home in Greenpoint. This is a basic shape and many yarns can be substituted. In addition to the Rowan RYC Cashsoft Aran, I also love GGH Goa or Cascade 220 Tweed. In my example, I have used RYC Soft Lux, which is unfortunately discontinued, but knits up at the same gauge as the Cashsoft - just look for something that knits to 18 stitches to 4 inches. For the summer you might like to try Lion Brand Cotton-Ease. If you desire the lovely glitter effect as in shown yarn, you might want to try Red Heart Holiday.
