Ubud is an artist community on the island of Bali. Locals and expats create wooden carvings, and vibrant batik fabrics. The linen stitch and color mixing reminds me of the colorful scenery in Ubud. Use cotton or cotton-wool blend yarn to mix solid color blocks with blended sections featuring thin zig zag stripes. The pattern is written for 2 colors, but is easily adapted for 3 or more colors. I imagine mixing many leftover yarns to create a multi-color set of placemats.
