Tonnach

A light, elegant cardigan with a vintage feel, featuring dropped sleeves, a boxy shape and a simple allover lace pattern. Tonnach is a Scottish Gaelic word for wavy.

A Horseback Brown: 4 (5, 6, 7, 7) x 25g balls
B Hirst: 1 (1, 2, 2, 3) x 25g balls
C Campion: 3 (3, 4, 4, 4) x 25g balls

Needles and notions
Gauge-size and below gauge-size needles of appropriate lengths for working body and neckline
Gauge-size dpn for working three needle bind off and i-cord
Gauge-size and below gauge-size needle(s) of your preferred type for working small circumferences for sleeves
Stitch markers
Safety pins or lockable stitch markers
Waste yarn or needle cords for holding stitches

9 buttons, approximately 1cm / ½in diameter

Gauge
30 sts and 34 rows to 10cm / 4 in over chevron pattern back
and forth and in the round.
Use 3.25mm / U.S. 3 needle as a starting point for swatching.

Wear with 5-10cm / 2-4in positive ease for a light, comfortable fit

Pattern notes
This cardigan is worked back and forth in one piece to the underarms, following the tonnach chart. Fronts and back are shaped separately, then joined at the shoulders, before the sleeves are picked up around the armscye and worked downwards, in the round. After working a ribbed neckband, the front edges are picked up, and finished with i-cord buttonholes / buttonbands.
